The wines
A totemic grape variety – Carignan
Drought-resistant Carignan is harvested by hand and represents the appellation’s iconic varietal. Accounting for at least 30% of the blend, it lends the wines its trademark structure, racy balance and black fruit notes. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre impart fullness, generosity and elegance to Boutenac blends, which undergo a mandatory maturation period lasting at least 14 months.
Characterful wines
They may well display a Mediterranean style with sun-filled charm, Boutenac wines remain voluptuous. They develop spice and fruit ripe perfumes, enhanced by mocha and garrigue notes. On the palate, they are mouth-filling with supple, rounded tannins. Wine enthusiasts can choose whether to drink them young, or lay them down. Boutenac wines are clean and forthright, with good ageability.
Boutenac Selection
Every year, winegrowers gather to taste their respective wines and select those which stand out as being the appellation’s most emblematic. These wines will go on to create the Boutenac Selection.
